Florrie

You know when you listen to a band and whenever you try to introduce their music to your friends and they look at you like you just suggested to wear a cat as a hat? Then months, perhaps years later, suddenly they are the new craze and nobody will listen that you knew they were going to be big years ago? Well heres a little Blog post about an artist which I think is about to catch flight. Her name is FLORRIE.

Florrie is a 22 year old British singer, song writer and most importantly, Girl drummer. She has played alongside less influential bands such as Girls aloud and more influential bands such as Pet Shop Boys.

Spare a prayer for Japan.

March 11th 2011
Today Japan has been struck by the most powerful earthquake to date. Within minutes twitter was receiving over 1200 tweets per minute from horrified people in Japan witnessing the tragedy. The earth quake struck the north-east coast causing a devasting tsunami. The quake, measuring to 8.9 magnitude has resulted in a current death toll of 200-300 bodies reported found, so far.
I cant even begin to imagine the absolute horror of loosing everything you are familiar with and it being replaced with the aspect of death. Transport and buildings were literally swept away by "a wall of water" rising to over 10m high. Parts of the pacific and in the Philippines have been evacuated ahead of the Tsunami's expected arrival.
Whether your buddhist, jewish, COE, or even atheist, lets put our hands together and our heads bowed and spare a prayer for the safety of our friends, relatives and simply, the human race in Japan. Imagine its our life's in danger, our homes, our families, its our world.
With so many earthquakes, tsunamis, natural disasters hitting our screens, we never know how long it is until its us, or someone we love who gets affected.
Live every day to the full and make full of everyday.

Stripes, stripes and a little more stripes.

Before I begin, I must dedicate this post to Kareen Brown simply because it was her idea and if anyone appreciates my stripes, its her.

Stripes have been in fashion for decades, ranging from times in the early 60's. My first question was why are they so popular, is it the bright colors, the slim factor or the navy look that attracts people to this fashion statement. Celebrities galore have been flaunting their stripes making them known to us and high street retailers. Stripes can be the answer to a casual dress down slouchy-go look as well as a hit the town eye catcher.

This link will lead you to a web site which expresses this point exactly.

One celebrity whom I reckon shares this fashion crush of mine is the beautiful
Fearne Cotton.

Here is a little example of my
 guilty obsession.

All in all, this equals up to over 20 stripy tops, jumpers and dresses. Woah.

Lent

Lent:
The Christian tradition to give up a personal luxury for 40 days and 40 nights, beginning the day after pancake day, marking the lead up to the easter season.

So here we are, the afternoon after pancake day. Decades ago your house would now be starved of flour, eggs etc, however in todays modern world we partake in lent by giving up something which we enjoy for 40 days. Have you given up anything for lent this year? Some people I've known in the past have given up food other than vegetables for 40 days. Unfortunately, im not that dedicated. However, my sacrifice for lent, I feel, for me, may be an extreme challenge and will definitely not be easy. I have decided to give up Chain Cafes. By Chain Cafes I don't mean prison canteens or anything quite as mad as that, I will however be quitting on the beauties known as, Starbucks, Costa, Cafe Nero. If you know me on a personal level, you will understand that this is quite a big thing. So I have confiscated my Coffee Cards and stamp sheets and now face 40 days of zilch ridiculously sugary, syrupy drinks.

Yesterday marked my last Frappacino for 40 days and to make it worse, Starbucks have even just released a new design for their cup. It may not sound like much, but, it really is.

World Book Day

Theres something innocently exciting about thinking and creating characters or choosing your favourite to mimick for World Book Day. As a late teen, I think that your never too old to dress up. Unless your past it.

This time last year the theme for myself and my friends was Pirates but this year we agreed on something a little more original.

  Pregnant School Girls.

We all dug out our school uniforms which hadn't been touched for around 2 years and wore them into our sixth form. Ofcourse we had to knock things up  a level so we added our own little touch of a baby bump. Anybody who has attended a state secondary school would agree that there is an issue with pregnant teenagers. In the most mockingly of fashions we whacked out the bronzer, jock jackets and ugg boots and made our ways to school (via public transport) with our unborn babies in tow. Overall it was quite a funny day, (not as funny as some of the looks we recieved) and all safely gave birth during our photography class.

I will be the first to say, I quite enjoyed being pregnant for the day.

March

So I have taken the spirit of March to a whole new level, something that I have never yet set my mind to, or even  taken pleasure in thinking about. This level is, Exercise.

I wondered why there was a clear division between those who enjoy a good workout and those who turn at the mere thought of it. I set myself a challenge to exercise for an hour every night, simply by using modern technology. Wii Fit is a simple program used via Wii which leads you through different stretches, exercise techniques, aerobics, yoga and even times you whilst you pop out for a jog. It is a great method of keeping a record of the exercise you have done and even informs you of your daily Wii Fit age, BMI and your weight.

Using the Wii fit board you can set yourself a goal of the weight you would like to loose/gain and the program schedules you a routine to help you reach this target weight by your target time. Updates will be recorded but this is definitely one to invest in, as it strives to make the "E word" fun.

"As a game made to appeal to the casual crowd Wii Fit easily tops Nintendo’s other efforts. Once you put the disc in you are ready to go straight away with no typical gaming start screen popping up at all. From there you are asked to select your favorite Mii and then enter your DOB and height. Then you move onto the core of the game, step up onto the Wii Board for the first time and take a Body Test. After a few seconds your height, weight and birth date will be combined and you’ll be told if you’re Underweight, Ideal, Overweight or Obese."

A Day at the Mayfair Hotel

Word got out that a particular pair of twins were staying in a particular hotel and arriving on a sunday morning. My good friend Fielding fed me the information and without much doubt we were on our way to London via train and tube and arrived for what we didn't realize was going to be such a long day, including alot of waiting

Here is a little schedule of how our day panned out:

5:30am- I recieve a wake up call from Fielding of which I hear her "yaying" down the phone at the fact that im actually awake

7:00am- Fielding is at my door and we are ready to go. Im looking like a sleepy hamster and Fielding is looking fresh and raring.

7:15am- We are at the train station waiting for our train to London Bridge

7:20am- Sitting on the relatively empty sunday morning train. Everyone is looking like a zombie whereas Fielding and myself are by this point buzzing over the possibility of meeting X Factors Jedward.

8 something AM- We are balancing on the Tube with our ipods at full volume to disguise the roaring sounds of our shared fear of the underground.

9:00am- Sitting in Starbucks in Green Park enjoying a large frappacino.

As the time drew towards 11am we made our way to the hotel front where we saw around 15 fans already waiting for the twins to arrive. We decided to wait round the corner to get first view of the taxi as it drove past. Around 3495 taxis passed, each one either empty or carrying people who didn't have hair as high as Jedward. We waited until around 12pm where we decided that if we stood in the winter winds for any longer, then we would turn blue. Blue is never a good look. The idea of sitting with by now around 30 Jedward fans strangely wasn't appealing so instead we held our heads and our breathes and walked through the doors of the Mayfair hotel. I don't know whether you have set foot inside The Mayfair hotel, but I can tell you now, it is amazing. We sat on a very appealing looking sofa in the hotel lobby and waited, and waited and waited. It is still a miracle that we didn't get removed from the hotel, but the heat was too inviting to leave. Celebrities were coming in and out of the lobby, there was a scream of flashing cameras every time "a known human" walked through the doors.

There was however one man which neither me or Becky could resist being pictured with. The slight essex swagger, the cockney accent, the gorgeous smile. Of course, im talking about Olly Murs. I honestly cant say that my nerves often get the best of me, but as we conversed with the extremely charming and sweet natured Murs my lips couldn't stop shaking. Therefore unfortunately my expression looks as though im in pain, Fieldings picture however was far more stylish.

12:00pm- Met Olly Murs and discussed a bit of music.

17:30pm- A long stretched 6 hours later to the "quoted arrival time" Jedward arrive outside, we decided to stay inside the hotel until they came in to avoid getting squished by over 50 Jedward fans.

17:40pm- Jedward drive off without coming into the hotel. Gutted we sit and the only thing we can do to disguise our stress was to laugh it off. We go to starbucks and stay in til closing time choosing our next steps.

21:00pm- Starbucks closes so we take our teas and head to outside the hotel, we heard rumors that Jedward were going to make their way back after appearing on Dancing on ice to support their friend, Vanilla Ice.

23:00pm- Jedward arrive outside the hotel and rush over to see their fans! They spend the next 10 minutes talking to around 15 of us, taking pictures and giving "Jed Hugs" Fielding and myself were the lucky pair to get a picture with both of them as John walked through the crowd, grabbed his brother, passed our camera to a fan and posed. We were 2 very happy girls, as Im sure you can imagine.

12:30pm- Sitting in Camden Barfly just in time to see the departure of Funeral Party and recollect the evenings events.

Yes I do realize I have the most ridiculous expression in all of these images, please excuse my face.

The birth of a blog

Okay so this is my first blog post and I was racking my brains trying to think of something remotely interesting to talk about. These blogs will be for anybody who cares enough to read them, in other words, mamma I hope you enjoy! They will follow any adventures of which happens in my day to day life this year. I promise to try and do some crazy things to make my posts that little bit more engaging, until then, enjoy.
